I wouldn't assume a criminal act, even if the police do.  There are many things in every home that can cause fires, explosions are rare, I'll give you that, but there's both gas and propane stored in my shed, auto painting supplies & welding gas in my garage, and a witches brew of chemicals in both our laundry area and under the sink that could, under the right circumstances, go boom.

I don't see a short-seller going to these lengths or endangering themselves just to destroy the property.  It's too easy to sell everything on Craigslist & run with the cash if "destruction" were the motive.

That said, my experience with Nationstar hasn't been positive.

Yes, Anna... so very fortunate although it was a close call for one neighbor. The homeowner to the east was sleeping through the whole thing (both homes were engulfed within minutes) and her nearby son who heard the blast ran over to the home and pulled her out with a garden hose in hand.  Makes me very sad that IF this was intentional someone would resort to this.  My blog post last night was "Short Sale or Blow My House Up?" Not trying to make light of the situation, but there was a news story a few years ago where a homeowner rented a bulldozer to plow his house down before the foreclosure sale date.  An act of this magnitude is CRIMINAL no matter how upset someone may be with the lender/servicer/investor.

Liz I heard about this on the news and wondered what the heck happened. Thankfully nobody was hurt or killed in either home. Arson...the story will continue I'm sure.

Just called Nationstar to inform them that one of their "assets" or "assets that they are servicing" blew up in Chandler, AZ.  People as far as two miles away felt the blast. Federal investigators and Chandler Police department are calling it arson since there is absolutely no gas lines in this part of town.  Funny thing is that this home had a foreclosure date of 2/21/12 and no one is reporting that. I informed Nationstar so that they are sure that they are not auctioning off a fenced in pile of rubble. They "noted" the account. :-)

Sally, It sounds like you need to find someone else to speak with at NationStar and/or Fannie Mae.

Comment by Sally English on December 28, 2011 at 4:39am

Submitted an offer and are awaiting approval from MI Company. Meanwhile have a sale date of Jan3rd. Nation Star says they cannot request a postponement from Fannie Mae since GA is a super lien state. Fannie Mae says Nation Star has to request the sale date. Negotiator will not request the sale date since offer not approved yet. The offer is netting the amount Nation Star says they want to receive. Help!

Tara,  They can't request a contribution on a HAFA SS.

Requesting a two week short sale extension on my approval letter. Negotiator responded with a $500 per week charge. Has anyone experienced this before?

We have a second that is Nationstar. They have "lost" the second...they don't know where it got transferred. Gatekeeper says it is in Loss Mitigation..they show it is zeroed out....but Owner has not gotten any written materials and there is not record of where it was sent. They say it is a 418 account..what is that?
