Hello and Thank You to everyone here! David, I'm also CDPE , I haven't taken this class yet but I'm going to. The more we learn the more we can successfully help !
Yes, I became a CDPE in early October. Excellent class. I am a bit of an education nut so go to a fair amount of classes and training. But over the past year or two have found that classes of interest and actual help are becoming rare. This one was very helpful and held my interest to the end.

And that can be tough to say at the end of two information packed days :>)

I am sure the online class is good but in person is even better. And they are holding them all over the country.

Between them and Short Sale Genius, I think they hold much of the good content out there.
How do you become a CDPE without the training?

Hi, Steele, Just a note that Distressed Property Institute is offering $99 audit fee to prior online CDPEs to attend an in-person class, if anyone is interested in doing that. It's a great class and as Steele says "2 information packed days."

Short Sale Superstars seriously rocks! Thank you for all you do to help us and that you do it so freely is amazing.

Patti, I told you this was a good place to hang out :-)
I have the CPDE designation but I also plan to take the SS Superstar classes offered here. Broker Bryant seems to always have good information.

Good education is hard to come by. Lots of mediocure is offered out there. I am very impressed with what I see shared here. I would think the classes here would be impressive as well.
I absolutely love Good Education! I'm the type of person who doesn't like to wing it, I like to know. There are over 3000 agents in my area and the saying 5% do 95% of the business really does apply here. Short Sales are going to play a huge part of RE business over this next year or so and they are not the kind of deals anyone should or can successfully wing. I really think it should be mandatory for all agents to have some sort of approved certification in short sales. Some of the listings I see on my MLS listed as "Approved Short Sale" or just a "Potential Short Sale" are very scary. You can tell by reading the agent to agent comments that the listing agent doesn't have a clue what they are doing. How is your area, do you have the same issues? I think my area might be a little worse then others, since I live in a tourist town.

Yes, there are a ton of amatuers out there. And a certification is not necessarily an indication of skill. Right now it is kind of "Wild West" out there. Seems like every week I get an email touting some new designation in short sales or REO. Frankly I think most of them are little more than one could find on their own using google. And now NAR has to get into the act and have a designation to sell. Sorry if I sound a bit cynical. Lately everyone is trying to sell us something. And as long as you pay the money they will give you the letters to put behind your name. Even if you slept through the class work.

The sharing on this and the CDPE website have been the exceptions. Thank goodness.

I have been a CDPE Advanced Member for about a month now and I found the class and materials to be excellent.

I just found this site today and so far I am impressed and look forward to being a part of this short sale community.

Education is good provided that the information provided is accurate and timely. The only problem I have with the CDPE is the representation that it is a designation with the inference that this is NAR recognized. This course is not NAR recognized nor endorsed.
With respect, I have never seen any claim the CDPE is recognized by NAR, I have however seen several clarifications from the owners and staff that this is a private designation.

Where did you see anything official making this claim?

No offense to NAR but they do tend to buy designations that they can then sell to the membership. And short sales are popular so they bought a short sale course. Will be interested to hear the reviews as people take the designation required coursework,

Ultimately I don't care if NAR endorses a course or not. They will only endorse what they own. Also I would be more concerned with industry endorsement any day of the week.
