I'm a buyer and I'm currently in the process of purchasing a short sale home and i need some help to see if there's any possibility to extend the short sale.

Let me provide some background and maybe someone could provide some insight into what other options that I could pursue.  We (my wife & I) found a short sale listing near the end of Nov 2010 and we went directly to the listing agent to submit our offer and it was accepted.  Mid December, we received the approval from EMC but the expiration date was for 12/23.  We agreed to have the listing agent who is also a broker take care of our loan.  After exchanging emails for several weeks with her assistance who was gathering the documentation for the loan, she still had not submitted our loan to any lender.  Long story short we ended using a different broker and was able to get a DU & loan approval last Friday.  The issue here is that EMC had told the listing agent after the 12/23 expiration that they wanted a closing date and were adamant about not giving another extension.   The agent ask for 45 days and 30 days extension and did not get it.  She finally asked for a 24 day extension and got it.  However we were we not aware of the extension approval, which expires this saturday, until yesterday.  The approval was dated on the 5th.  We just ordered the appraisal yesterday, we about one week from going to docs and then we got a call last night that EMC does not want to give another extension.

I'm asking my broker to call the EMC and see if we can possible persuade them.  Short of calling EMC myself (and I'm the borrower) I don't know what other options I have.  If anyone has any ideas I'd would love to hear it.  Is there a closing department or someone I could call?   I read somewhere that maybe pay a per diem to get the extension.
