I am a realtor and am in the final stages of purchasing a short sale for myself. It was just brought to my attention that I am not entitled to my commission on this purchase as the buyer's agent. Has anyone ever encountered a situation like this?

Not true. I have had 2 agents get paid a commission on their own or related entity purchase. Everything was disclosed in writing and even verified verbally and it was all fine. Recently Ocwen told me they did not care if the listing agent purchased the property and was paid a commission. The various policies on this issue depend on the loan investor's guidelines and/or servicer's guidelines. There is no absolute rule. The simple answer is to always disclose this to all parties and make sure the buyer/Realtor understands that getting paid a commission may or may not happen.
