I've been reading this forum for some time now expecting to eventually come to a point where I needed a short sale.  I figured I would post to see if I can get some information.  After 5 years of trying to get a loan modification through HSBC mortgage services I have finally decided that we would proceed with the short sale.  I found a realtor with experience in short sales and the process has begun.

I had a few questions for folks who have experience in short sales and with HSBC.

 1.  Initially when I called my representative for status on my last modification. (denied due to income exceeding program guidelines)  I explained that we would be beginning the short sale process.  She asked for my realtors name and phone number.  I gave her that information.  She then went on to mention that there was a possibility of some relocation help.  She put me on hold and came back stating that they would be able to offer me up to $17000 for relocation expenses and asked if I accepted that.  I found that odd but said yes.  Then about 2 weeks later my lawyer's office emailed me stating that the relocation assistance was now up to $2500.

I guess anything is great, but has anyone experienced this before?

2.  Another question is, has there been anyone who was offered a work out solution to stay in the home after initiating a short sale?  I doubt this exists but I since we don't have an issue staying if they came back and lowered our payment we would be ecstatic!

Any information will be helpful.

Thanks for the reply.  Is there a time limit when a short sale moves to a deed in lieu?  I am in Massachusetts so i will definately look into that additional relocation assistance.
