I had a short sale with CITI & in the middle of it they told us we would have to deal with the investor directly from now on, which is Freddie Mac.  I called the service center & the lady on the other end said she couldn't talk to me without a "TPO number".  I asked her what that was & she hung up on me.  Does anyone know what that means & where I can get a number...no one that I've tried to reach at Freddie Mac wants to tell me anything.

TPO number is a "Third Party Originator".  In another words, a mortgage banker or broker who is signed up with Freddiemac to use their underwriting system to originate loans.  They are asking for your TPO number - which would be the number of the lender who originated the loan.  You spoke with someone who doesn't know what they are talking about.

I would start back with Citi and ask if they are no longer handling the short sale approval, please give you the contact name and number for who is handling it.

If you don't receive any satisfaction try calling Pamela S Johnson at Freddiemac - she is the lead specialist for the Homeowner Assistance Response Team 703-918-8480 [email protected].

Thank you both...I appreciate the help.
