Any VA Compromise Guidelines?

Are there any published guidelines regarding these short sales (a la HUD with FHA's)? Any experience with seller contributing cash to second to avoid note/deficiency? Dealing with my first VA involving a HELOC. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
