How to proceed ?

My situation is this... My wife recently passed from lung cancer which slashed my income by 2/3. I am disabled on oxygen 24/7 and cannot work and need to either short sale, rent or walk away. I made last months payment but money is in short supply. Can I request a short sale and not make payments? My meager Soc Sec would cover the payment but not much else. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you
